My Teaching Story

I received a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Beijing Normal University, one of China’s top universities. Afterward, I taught physics for eight years at the prestigious Beijing No. 4 High School (ranked first in Beijing high schools). There, I was honored First Place in the Beijing Young Teachers' Teaching Competition.

After coming to the U.S., I earned a graduate degree in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University and worked in IT, gaining experience in a different industry.

My journey back into teaching began when I started tutoring my daughter. Over a decade ago, she enrolled in Honors Physics, but after attending Back-to-School Night, I was shocked by the teacher's lack of depth. I decided to tutor her myself and proposed that she take AP Physics C directly. The school initially refused, insisting she first complete honors high school physics. Undeterred, I began intensive tutoring. Within two months, she scored a perfect 800 on the SAT Physics Subject Test. With this score, we convinced the school to let her take AP Physics C: Mechanics. The school didn’t offer AP Physics C: Electricity & Magnetism (E&M) at the time. However, I firmly believe Mechanics and E&M are the two pillars of physics and must be studied together, so I guided her through self-studying E&M as well.

In less than six months, she completed both AP Physics C exams and scored 5s on both. This experience not only boosted her knowledge and skills but also her confidence. She went on to graduate high school in three years (instead of the typical four), was accepted by both MIT and Caltech and eventually chose MIT, where she earned a bachelors and master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science within four years.

My second daughter followed a similar path and also attended MIT, where she obtained a Bachelors in Aerospace Engineering. She is now pursuing her PhD at MIT, where she regularly draws on my teaching as a foundation for her research in orbital mechanics — from modeling space debris to solving the three-body problem.

Helping my daughters achieve their goals reignited by passion for teaching. Before long, friends began sending their children to me for tutoring. I started developing my own teaching materials and problem sets and hosting small group lessons for students from nearby high schools in my home. After the pandemic began, I shifted all classes online. Soon, students from across the United States, including San Diego, Boston, and Seattle, as well as from Canada and international schools in Shanghai, started joining.

For years, my classes grew through word of mouth. In early 2025, I ran into a former student from my Beijing No. 4 High School days. She encouraged me to formally introduce myself online and share my services to teach students around the world. So here I am, extending my teaching to students worldwide. I appreciate your visit and welcome any feedback.
